Is this fair?

Stay with me because it’s not really about football. See, these two players left college after four years of playing (American football). They went to try out with NFL (pro) teams, but didn’t make the cut. Tough, right? Well, there is a loathsome college football coach named Lane Kiffin (LSU) who told those two players who didn’t make the cut, to come back and play for him in college (all college players get paid). It’s legal on a technicality. They voted to let players play a fifth year, but they did not mean after they’d already left college. These guys had already practiced with pros, gone through professional camps.
There was such an outrage the loathsome coach didn’t even try to put the “pro” players on the roster. You might think, well, what’s the harm in letting them come back? Well, that’s two spots gone and unavailable to authentic college players.
It’s all on hold, and stupidly will be fought out in the courts. Because apparently the courts don’t have enough things to do.
Should the “pros” be allowed to come back to college if cut? Should it be solely those who never left college? This is now coming up as other athletes in other sports want to do this.

I'm a Raiders fan. Don't get me started on Lane Kiffin.

@AmbiePam - He's a piece of work. His father was a great defensive coach.

They were granted a 5th year by a judge. They graduated in Dec. and all the others who graduated in spring were granted a 5th year due to Covid. They graduation put them in a 6 month period where the 5th year wasn't covered, which wasn't FAIR to them. Think about how you would feel if all the others got the waiver and you didn't, just because you graduated early?
Kiffin did nothing wrong. If he had not gone after them, other teams would have. Geaux Tigers!! Can't wait for the game Saturday night!!

I was so close to adding a note for you, Karen. I knew this would not be a popular post with you. And no, they did nothing wrong. But to be honest, LSU has nothing to do with why I think Lane Kiffin is loathsome. As Scott mentions in his post, I thought Lane Kiffin was loathsome back when he was with the Raiders. LSU just happens to be where Lane is right now. I think LSU could do better. Much better.

I wouldn't think so. It's an unfair advantage.

You know you’re a problem when the rest of the Southeastern Conference wants to kick you OUT of the conference!

This is wild, once you go pro you shouldn't get to just hop back to college and take a roster spot from a kid who actually stuck it out. Feels like a loophole nobody thought through til someone greedy found it. Courts gonna be busy with this one for a while I bet.

I mean. I don’t know. That’s a hard one to decide. My initial thought is no they shouldn’t be able to come back.
