Go Big or Go Home - "Big Fun"

It’s time for a little fun now. Actually, strike that. It’s misleading. It’s time for some big fun now. “Big Fun” was the 1988 debut single from Detroit electronic dance music act Inner City (at that time a duo consisting of Kevin Saunderson and Paris Grey.) Combining Detroit techno with House music, “Big Fun” was the first of five singles from the band to top the Billboard Dance Club Play chart. Which means that if you were pursuing big fun by being a clubgoer in the late 80’s, odds are you heard this song, or even danced to it, at some time. And not just here in the States, either. “Big Fun” was an international hit, charting in eight countries - this type of music was huge in the late 80’s/early 90’s (the follow-up single, “Good Life,” charted in ten countries. Inner City really had it working back in the day.) The song has stood the test of time - it still sounds fresh today. Its impact has lasted; LA Weekly put “Big Fun” at #7 in their 2015 list of The 20 Best Dance Music Tracks in History,” while in 2018 Mixmag called it one of The 30 Best Vocal House Anthems Ever. Even the BBC got in on it, saying "As one of house music's most infectious crossover hits 'Big Fun' was a hit for young dancers and older ravers alike. It transformed dance music from something found in club basements to a genre that could move an entire nation." Are you looking for mere fun, or are you looking for Big Fun?
