Go Big or Go Home - "Big Spliff"

Face it, I just couldn’t do this series and leave my favorite reggae band out of it. That would be like a Taylor Swift fan leaving Taylor Swift out of a series of Taylor Swift songs. Kingston, Jamaica’s Black Uhuru (Uhuru is Swahili for "freedom") has a habit of releasing an album, then releasing a companion dub version of said album. These dub albums are really good, particularly the ones made by Sly & Robbie (Dunbar [R.I.P.] and Shakespear [R.I.P.], respectively. The duo were dub masters. “Big Spliff” is the dub version of the band’s popular song, “Right Stuff,” from their 1982 album, Chill Out. “Big Spliff” is from that album’s 1983 companion dub album, The Dub Factor. Both are considered reggae classics. The vocals are few, the dub effects are many, and the chilled groove is undeniable. Of course, I just finished one, so “Big Spliff” is really pulling me in right now. Link is to a You Tube posting of the song:
