I finished reading The One by John Marrs. It's part of book series called Dark Future. There are five books in the book series. Like You Killed me First, I did have to take notes while I read the book. There is a tv show on Netflix that is very loosely based on the book. I will post about the tv series once I finish watching it. Big Warning: there is lots of violence and some sad parts. There is even a twist near the end. Semi Spoiler below. I won’t spoil the twist. Before I start, I want to say that this book reminds me of an episode of the show Black Mirror. In this book, a company called Match your DNA is a company where people can find love with using DNA. Elle is the CEO of the company. She found out our phenomes can be paired with someone else. The DNA matches causes a spark of passionate love. Elle was always working and she thought she didn't need anyone. But she did take the test and she was matched with a man named Tim. Another woman named Jade finds out she is matched with a man named Kevin. The problem is that she lives in England and he lives in Australia. They talk on the computer. Her friends talk her into going to Australia. She does, but she finds out he has cancer. She also discovers she isn't in love with him. He asks her to marry him and says yes. Then he sadly dies. She finds out Kevin's brother Mark was actually matched with her, not Kevin. She ends up going on a trip with Mark. Another woman named Mary finds out she is matched with a man named Richard. She discovers he had been in car accident. There was a memorial for him. She meets his mother and she lives with her for a while. But she finds out he had an ex-girlfriend. His mother want her to have Richard's baby. She said she saved his sperm (but she actually stole it). She is pregnant and goes to see the ex-girlfriend who tell hers that Richard is alive, but he is a vegetative state. She goes to see him. She tries to leave, but his parents wouldn't let her and she falls down the stairs. She wakes up in a hospital and finds out her baby is gone. Richard's parents took him. The baby is almost killed and Richard's mother is in a hospital. Mary takes the baby to see Richard and Richard wakes up. A man named Christopher is matched with a woman named Amy. Amy is a police officer in the fraud division. Christopher is a killer. He has a goal of thirty women to kill. He used a dating app to find the women. He thought he was uncapable of love, but he did fall for Amy. Amy finds out he is the serial killer that the police are searching for. She is conflicted because she does love him. In the end, she kills him and sets his body on fire. A couple named Nick and Sally are engaged. Sally's friends egg them into doing the DNA test. Nick didn't want to do. But Sally kept telling him that they need to do it. Sally sneaks and does the test for them. Sally says she doesn't have a match (but she is matched with one of their friends). Nick is matched with a man named Alex. Nick isn't gay, but he does have a spark with Alex. But later on Sally announces that she is pregnant. Nick breaks up with Alex to help Sally out. But Sally had bad headaches and she ends up dying during childbirth. Nick finds out the baby isn't his, but he takes care of him anyway. He and the baby move to New Zealand to be with Alex. I didn't like the twist near the end, but I did enjoy reading this book. I'm reading next The Passengers by John Marrs. It's the second book of the Dark Future book series.
