What's the plan B if AI takes over most jobs?

September 29, 2026 8:44am CST
I am trying to be in the situation where i am useful in my mid age and not end up broke in my old age. So what sort of jobs can be done if AI takes over? Do you have a plan B?

Honestly i think jobs where people need real human touch will last the longest, like teaching, nursing, and trades like plumbing or electrical work. AI can do a lot but it cant fix a leaking pipe or sit with a scared kid. My plan B is just keep learning new skills so i never get too comfortable.

I’m just not sure. There is always a call for nurses here, And the trades are in demand like electricians. It’s really a puzzling prospect. Sure, cleaners will always be needed, but that does not pay well.

Well, I’m retired so I don’t have to worry about that. However, there was a joke about a salon that had a sign that said “$5 haircuts,” and its competitor salon put up a sign that said, “We fix $5 haircuts.” I think that’s everyone’s plan B: fix what AI messes up. And boy, does AI mess up. Yesterday morning I asked Siri AI if any baseball managers had been fired, and he (I have the voice set to male) said that the Mariners’ manager had quit and the Twins fired their manager. I asked again later in the evening and he said NO managers had been fired.

AI needs people to run them, not that they are self running softwares....

yes AI needs developers to build it.. but typical small jobs like done on office app are now automated and small jobs will be gone for computers.
