Today’s electric tune comes to us straight out of the 80’s. Also, it comes to us via Australia, with one of that country’s biggest selling rock bands, Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Famer’s, Icehouse. You’ve heard “Electric Blue” on the radio at some point, most likely. The song charted in six countries, including #1 in Australia (#7 on the Billboard Hot 100.) Which means it got radio airplay, as well as MTV exposure. The thing is, had Icehouse not recorded “Electric Blue,” odds are you would have heard it anyway. Why? “Electric Blue” was co-written by Icehouse leader Ira Davies and John Oates (Oates even performed the backup vocals.) Oates said, after, that if Icehouse had not released the song, it would have become a Hall & Oates song. And trust me, I worked in radio in the 80’s. Hall & Oates were all over the radio - they were an 80’s hit machine. This would have been another in their string of hits from that decade. I’m firmly convinced of that.
