Ghana Bans Nuisance Preachers From Buses

Sometimes it seems like the news is nothing but bad news, but I've just read a good news story on the BBC website. Ghana has banned the practice of preaching and/or hawking on buses. Apparently people preaching on buses is a major problem in Ghana, creating a nuisance similar in nature to all those (mostly American) religious nutters who film themselves preaching on planes and putting the videos on YouTube. Any civilised person knows that the first rule of public transport is not to bother people. The passengers are mostly just trying to get from A to B without fuss, and some will want to sleep on the way - I often do. Who needs a bunch of zealots disturbing the peace, with their preaching and singing. The new law in Ghana specifies a fine or a jail sentence of up to eight months. Eight months seems a bit harsh to me, except maybe in the case of really persistent, serial offenders, but there certainly should be some kind of deterrent. I reckon a week or two should be enough for a first offence. If you want to promote your religion, fine, but do it with decorum and in a place where you don't have a captive audience locked up with you. It's simple decency.

Well done Ghana. Nobody should be preached to on a bus or anywhere if they don't want to be preached to. When in Ghana adhere to the Ghanian law I don't think it's harsh at all to be honest
