I have just seen this asked on fb …. Do you think that youngsters should give up their seat on a bus for the elderly ? Personally , I say YES. Out of respect and because they are more able to stand without all the aches and pains of the elderly and they are more able to stand without falling , if say the bus stopped suddenly. Elderly have paid their dues ….and what self respecting person with a sense of right and wrong and compassion would not want to help an elderly person ! By youngsters I don’t mean young children ….them I would expect to sit on their parents lap anyway …. And certainly if an elderly person needed the seat. What is your view ?

Maybe not a youngster, as they have no knowledge as to why they would do that, but a male slightly older and who understands I would expect to give up a seat. I have given up a seat in a public waiting room for someone older than I am or someone who walks with a cane or crutch, it kind of sends a signal to any male who hadn't offered.

@Juliaacv. I’m not talking about a young child who would be with parents ….i would expect them to sit on their parents lap so that an elderly person could sit down. A youngster should have been told by -parents the right thing to do. I think make and female should give up their seat not just males…

@Traceyjayne Ah well I could only comment on what was asked I find as i meander my way though life's winding routes that most reasonable people are well mannered I think also that what I might think is the right thing to do might not be everyone's view and I have to accept that If I conduct myself well, I am happy. Conduct, that's a really good bus pun

If there is nothing wrong with the youngster, yes they should give up their seat. I did when I was a teenager. I can’t afford to do that now even if 45 is still young. My parents would have expected me too. BUT, I expect a man to give up a seat before the youngster (unless the man is old).

@AmbiePam …obviously if young or older folks have issues that means they can’t give up their seat, then that’s totally understandable. I think here, people would expect a youngster to give up their seat before any adult.

@Traceyjayne I guess I’m picturing a youngster of six running to and fro around the bus as the mom continues to sit down. Because if you mean a teen like I was, then yes, I agree.

Wow, I can't believe someone would ask this question at all! There's a seat that is reserved for the elderly on the bus but sometimes they could already be taken. I would give up mine easily when I see an elderly, a pregnant woman or a person with physical disability.

I agree with you totally. I was surprised when I saw the question being asked, I would give up my seat without question, but I wondered if others felt the same as someone was questioning it …
