Nosferatu

Just right for spooky season and for horror movie fans. This is a silent film, but who needs sounds when a spooky vampire is on the loose unless you’re screaming? The film "Nosferatu" dates from 1922 and features a vampire who looks horrific and whose name is Count Orlok. This film is considered a classic of horror cinema and an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula." In the original film, the German actor Max Schreck portrayed this scary version of the well-known vampire. In 1979 and in 2000, new versions of this film were made but I suggest you watch the original at least first. The original is available on YouTube, and here is one of the scariest scenes just to put you in the mood.

I have seen the original which is a fine example of German expressionism filmmaking. The 2000 film Shadow of a Vampire is about the making of Nosferatu and Willem Dafoe received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Max Schreck.

Love that you pointed people to the original first, it really is the best place to start. Even without sound, Count Orlok still feels creepy to me, those long shadows on the stairs get me every time. Perfect pick for spooky season, I might rewatch it this weekend.

I think they did another recent remake of it again. I don’t think I’ve seen any of the versions although I’m always open to a good scary movie.
