I’m in Denver. Yes, literally; I live here. But we’re in Denver tonight for today’s tune.
Sugarloaf was a Denver band, originally called Chocolate Hair (after they signed to Liberty Records, the label suggested a name change due to the possibility of their moniker being considered racist. Sugarloaf is a mountain here in Colorado.) The band was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
“Green-Eyed Lady” is a psychedelic rock song from the band’s 1970 debut album, Sugarloaf. The single did quite well for a band from Denver, #1 in Canada and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
So who is this mysterious green-eyed enchantress keyboardist Jerry Corbetta is singing so glowingly about? Turns out he wrote the song for his girlfriend, Kathy Peacock. The other band members called her “Corbetta’s green-eyed lady.) It’s that simple.
Fun Fact: Jerry Corbetta toured for five years as a member of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons.

I didnt know their orignal name wasn't Sugarloaf.
That is pretty cool.
Also I didn't know Corbetta was part of The Four Seasons.

I honestly didn't either. I thought it was a neat bit of trivia.

It still sounds good on the radio. Of course, I have no idea if it's in the iHeart Radio Classic Rock 250-song rotation anymore. Local Classic Rock stations still play it.
