I know I’ve written before about how things we need often turn up at just the right time.
We have a short aluminium step ladder which I use in the garden, it’s OK for tying up the shorter roses and jobs like that.
But for picking grapes, if I stand on the top step I can easily reach the lowest bunches, and I can just about reach some of the ones higher up, but it’s quite a struggle and when the bunches are tangled around the branches and need two hands it’s really rather precarious. And then there are still others I can’t reach at all.
Cue a neighbour down the road obviously having a clear-out. Outside their house, with a big sign saying ‘FREE’ they left a box of plastic plant pots and a big wooden step ladder!
I went past a few times and didn’t think I needed a big old ladder, but then once the grapes needed picking I looked at it again and decided to give it a go. I carried it home and tried it out and it was just perfect; easily tall enough - twice the height of the smaller one - very stable and not rickety at all!
So now it’s my special grape ladder and I’m very happy with it

"very stable and not rickety at all" I'd be careful climbing
on the very last step no matter to how sturdy a ladder is
& I'm guessing there was no 1 around to hold it while you
was up there? just think if you had of fell ? not very smart
