“Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?” “No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.” What’s James Bond doing popping up in my music series? What’s he got to do with anything? Nothing. The dashing, fictional British spy has nothing to do with anything. But… …someone editing Wikipedia has gone to great lengths to point out that many are of the opinion that David Bowie’s “Lady Grinning Soul” sounds like “Bowie’s long-lost Bond theme.” I can see where they make the comparison. It’s not that hard to picture the opening credits of a Bond film over this. It might have worked during the Connery era, maybe. I always thought Bowie would have made a good Bond villain anyway, so it would have been kind of cool if they had used it. Anyway, that’s the Bond “connection.” The song itself was a last-minute addition to Bowie’s 1973 album, Aladdin Sane. The intention was to close the album with a saxophone version of Bowie’s 1972 single, “John, I’m Only Dancing.” They went with “Lady Grinning Soul” instead. “Do you expect me to talk, Bowie?” “No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.” (Something like that.) Link is to the studio album version:

Maybe he heard “Live and Let Die” and thought, “Heck, I can write a song like that!“

I am not familiar with all of Bowie's music other than his big hits.

Ha, I can totally hear this as a Bond theme, it has that dramatic feel to it. Bowie as a Bond villain would have been so good too. Never knew it was a last minute addition to the album, thats a fun fact.
