Pain - an antidote to suffering?

The celebrations of the feminine energy going on, yesterday we did not do the usual ritual of offering flowers.
Unlike every year it was just a normal day; the only difference being the divine chants going on elsewhere, freshening the fresh morning.
Presently as I was engrossed in something, my sister came up and blasted me for covering the milk bowl with a lid while it was still in the boiling stage. Loss of milk is loss.
My mistake. I had not seen that the oven was on.
Usually my sister leaves the milk uncovered after boiling.
I had imagined a cat crawling up to the bowl at a later hour.
The pang of pain her words caused was unexpectedly shocking.
I let it accelerate the pain of mother's loss which was already weighing on me and an unknown fear that had started taking roots.
Throughout the day, I felt a sharp pain inside my throat for not having reasoned out why I did what I did and allowed the image of the overflowing milk with bounteous wealth approaching if I am fortunate enough.
That's when it struck. Sometime in the afternoon.
It is because we feel pain, we know we are alive. Feelings and emotions are tools to help us remember we are humans.
Also I took it as a punishment from mother herself for breaking the practice.
Well, all is left to thought.
If one thought is a disease, the other is a cure.
Pain is permanent. Pleasure is temporary.
Your thoughts?

I think your sister's words hurt more because you were already feeling the loss of your mother. Sometimes a small incident can bring out emotions we have been holding inside. But I wouldn't see the spilled milk as a punishment from your mother. It was simply an accident, and you meant no harm. I also don't think pain is permanent. It may never disappear completely, but with time, it can become easier to live with.
