They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, and in this economy, people prefer the “cheap stuff” than the expensive one but these would really prefer by the consumer if they feel comfortable parading to the public a counterfeit or not. Canal Street has always been famous as New York City’s go-to spot for fake designer items… You name it from bags, watches, and clothes. For a lot of tourists and budget shoppers, it’s a fun way to get the high-end look of brands like Louis Vuitton or Rolex without spending thousands of dollars. But behind the scenes, it's a huge underground business. While grabbing a cheap knock-off feels like an easy deal, the counterfeit trade actually costs businesses billions, avoids taxes, and often uses unfair labor. Even though police constantly raid these vendors and try to shut them down, the high demand for these so-called “Dupe luxury” keeps Canal Street market alive and well. What do you think drives people to buy knock-offs the most? is it just about saving money, or do people actually prefer not paying full price to luxury brands? Photo credits to: Shutterstock

I think it's mostly the price, but some people also just don't see why a bag should cost a month's rent. Buying a dupe feels like a smart choice to them, not a shameful one. Still the labor part you mentioned is what makes me think twice.

Yes for it is an open secret that these stuffs are made by sweatshops and made by poor labor ethics so I don't think it's good to partake buying it but for others if that makes them satisfy since they don't want to spend much who am i to judge.
