Go Away - "Walk Away'

It seems that we have an actual “Go Away” song in our midst today, one full of venom and bile! Okay, I made up the venom and bile stuff, but it is a go away song. And it’s not even by Fleetwood Mac! “Walk Away” was the lead single from The Sisters of Mercy’s 1985 debut album, First and Last and Always. It ended up being a mid-level single - it reached #45 in the U.K., although the album itself has been certified Gold in both Germany and the U.K. On to the good stuff. Despite being the group’s classic lineup, the band was beginning to fracture. In an interview with Heartland, guitarist Gary Marx claims he was close to leaving the band, and at the same time vocalist Andrew Eldritch was in the middle of a breakup with a long-time girlfriend. This would suggest that Eldritch was making a dual suggestion, but on the Andrew Collins Show on BBC 6, Eldritch said the lyrics are aimed squarely at Marx. Music history is littered with band drama. There’s your share of it for today. Link is to the official promotional video, which I honestly had no idea existed until just now:
