Laughter on Halloween

Two comedians and actors, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, were known for their work on radio, film, and TV and were one of the most popular comedy teams of the 1940s and 1950s. Two films they made are comedy mixed with horror and very much fun to watch for the spooky season. One is the 1948 film “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein." The movie has all you need for monstrous fun with Universal monsters such as Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Frankenstein (Glen Stange), and even the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.). The plot is simple: Dracula seeks to use Costello's brain for Frankenstein's monster. You can bet that the chubby little fellow does everything to make sure he doesn’t lose his brain. This is fun to watch. Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde In this 1953 horrific comedy, Abbott and Costello play two American police officers in Victorian London, now part of the police, or bobbies. The city is in turmoil as the police attempt to capture evil, hairy Mr. Hyde, not having any idea that he is actually the prominent and respected Dr. Jekyll, played by Boris Karloff. I just love the scene when the little chubby guy finally shoves Mr. Hyde into a cage and locks it, then calls his buddy and London policemen to congratulate him, but in the cage, straight-faced Boris Karloff is now, as Dr. Jekyll claims he has no idea why the little fellow shoved him in the cage. Watch it and laugh along. Trailer for Meeting Frankenstein
