1970 Oakland Coliseum Booker T and the MG’s are the greatest and most influential instrumental group in rock history. They were the house band at Stax Records playing behind all the label’s artists and creating the Stax sound. On their own, they enjoyed success with hits like the classic “Green Onions.” “Time is Tight” is my favorite of theirs. This performance came as opening act for Creedence Clearwater Revival (what an awesome concert that must have been) and you see CCR members looking on. What you hear are master musicians Booker T. Jones (Hammond organ), Steve Cropper (guitar), Donald “Duck” Dunn (bass) and Al Jackson Jr. (drums) in peak form craftsmanship.

I recognized it once it got past the incredibly painfully long intro.

Duck Dunn just sitting in that pocket while Cropper plays only what the song needs...yeah thats the whole Stax sound right there. fr one of those rooms i wish i could have stood in, CCR watching from the side is a nice touch too.
