If you pay enough attention, you’re going to notice a certain decade dominating this particular series. I started crossing off songs, and here we are. “So This is Love?” was the first of four singles released from Van Halen’s 1981 album, Fair Warning. The album itself was considered a bit darker, or rather, “less fun,” than Van Halen’s previous three albums, which might or might not have contributed to the record being the slowest-selling album of the band’s David Lee Roth era. In fact, “So This is Love?” failed to break the Billboard Hot 100 - it remained in “Bubbling Under” status, peaking at #110. On the other hand, Chuck Klosterman ranked it as Van Halen’s 29th-best song, so it’s got that going for it. Darker or not, it still sounds like a dog wearing sunglasses to me.
