My Favorite You Tube Live Performances: #4 "Get Down Tonight" KC and the Sunshine Band

1977 Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert Yes, it’s disco. I was never on the disco sucks burn records bandwagon and many songs were catchy fun. KC and the Sunshine Band were the kings of disco not the Bee Gees. KC’s (H.W. Casey) lyrics were deliberately simple and repetitive aimed to stick in mind but they do have an infectious quality. There are a couple of vintage versions of “Get Down Tonight” and this one possesses higher energy. Look at choreography of the terrific horn section with one guy doing something never seen before. Look at those crazy 70s outfits! Easy to dismiss disco and yet the musicianship is excellent. Guitar and bass providing relentless driving funk beat meant to get people moving. “Get Down Tonight” isn’t meant to be soul searching artistic experience but on your feet have a good time music.
