Will Having a horse and cart be cheaper and better than a car?

December 3, 2006 9:37am CST
I am thinking with the rising price of having a car-eg petrol, tax, mot and possible new pay as you go road pricing that it might work out cheaper and more fun to have a horse and build a cart like in the old westerns. At the moment I have a 4x4 and a mpv I am thinking of selling them and doing things the old fassioned way. I live in the uk and I dont know all the laws regarding this. At the moment it's just an idea, I have 6 kids and they all think it would be really cool.BUT is it going to be practical?

Wow! This is an interesting thought! :o). But gas prices are getting higher, who knows, we might be going back to horse and buggy! We've become so spoiled with technology!

well this is just one of the points im trying to get accross you see we are so used to our comfy cars and trains and busses but what happens when all the oil, petrol and just the cost of running a car becomes to much for the odenery person to afford, get cozy with your life, but when global warming starts flooding your house and shortages start affecting you what then?

I'm not so sure, if this is going to be practical. But, it's sure fun. I can picture the scene : six kids with mama and papa in the front seats. What a wonderful sight that would make!!

Well I think it's a bit narrow minded of you to say that, if you read all the comments maybie you could say something a bit more constuctive

i think having a horse and cart would work out more than a car and fuel, as you have to feed a horse all hours of the day. and you can lock a horse up etc atleast a car you can lock it.

Well I am worried about if i was to go out on it where I would leave it but that is the ONLY big deal about wether to have one or not

Yes,it's practical because you can save on petrol, tax expenses and etc if you don't or use a car.How about Bicycles? You can ride a bicycle and can save on gas.It cool and your going medieval but i don't know if the horse can travel a lot faster than a bicycle.

yeh but a bike actually means effort!

It depends on what country you live in and if you live in a third world country or not. In the U.S. that is just not practical due to the travel time it would take you to get anywhere.

Your thinking is not bed, but it is not prudent to return back in 18th century. Today’s world is very fast they don’t have a time to spare they want breakfast at New Delhi, lunch at London and dinner at Washington. This is the reality of to day. Although travailing in horse cart is cost effective but it is time consuming process and uncomfortable to travel. Simply choosing the horse cart we can’t cop up with other modernization advancement. If we are paying for petrol, taxes and mot then on the other hand earning opportunities is also increased. Therefore, in my opinion it would not be wise decision to return from car to horse-cart.

What I am talking about is not taking my horse and cart all over the world, I don't do this with my car, in fact it would be no more than a 20 mile radius of my home. It's just do you not think the human race is lazy now? oh and your spelling mistakes are looooads!read what you put before you send it
