People like Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton etc.. why is it that we as a society are so obessessed on who is marrying who? Who has what personal problems? What is the fanciation with people like this?

Here in Canada, some of the people are obsessed with Celebrites. I think this is less common than in the US, but personally I don't care about what celebrities eat, dress or love. They are just humans like us. In today's society, they are one of the most successful people. We see them everywhere. People need models and in our society, politics, religion or science are not as popular as before, at least here in Canada. We care for people who make us forget our problems, not for people who try to remove them. That is my perception of life.

I'm pretty sure England or U.K. is just as bad.I see bits run from the Sun on my gossip page all the time.I guess we're obsessed because these are all beautiful people out doing things we wish we could do.Like the commercial on VH1 says 'Get a life..Theirs'.

It's pretty much all over the world, I'd say. Look at all the Indians on Mylot speculating over which Bollywood star is more attractive or should get married to which other star, etc., and the other nationalities talking about Beyonce, Eminem, etc. It's probably always been that way, whether the celebrity is Lindsy Lohan or Elvis, Rudy Vallee or Rudolf Valentino, or Mary PIckford.

Oh definitely yes. Like recently here in Italy, TomKat (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) hosted their fanfare wedding in a castle in Rome, yet the news around here was that the locals in that area were highly insulted because the couple seemed to shun them from seeing anything that had to do with the fanfare of the wedding. Yet, the local town it was hosted in went out of its way to embrace the idea and make them feel welcome. However, I will say this much, they are obsessed to a lesser degree here, because what is gossipy and news worthy today with the celebrity arena, it seems to die out more quickly, and interest lost real qick.
