I ask this because I know this family here a mom and dad two sons ages 15 and 7. Mom and dad both work outside of the house, when they are home together at night they eat at there computers, every single one of them has there own computer. They play this reality war type game. If you were to walk into there house at any given night you would find all four of them sitting in front of the computer with head sets on playing this game. The boys have no other activites that they do, no sports, or extra curricular activities. They don't read books, or do anything as a family but this. My question is, is this an acceptable form of "family time" or has the computer crossed the point of interfereing in the family structure?

I don't think computers are destroying the fabric of the family unit. I think it is up to the family to set proper guidelines with respect to family quality time. That is not what is happening in this family. They seem to just all do what they want to do, and that is the fault of the parents not the computer. The children will lead by example, and if the parents are not deeming set time for quality family interaction, and encouraging the children to get out and do something more than hang out on a computer then that is a sad state for their family.
