Would you rather be rich or be happy?

Is it more important to have money or to be happy? I remember as a child asking my mother how come we were so poor? And she would always say (tongue-in-check), "because we are so good-looking." I think I'd like to try both for awhile! LOL

If I can only choose one, it'll definitely be happy because a scenario just flashed across my mind: A billionaire being wheeled in and out of the hospital because he's plagued with many serious health problems and his money is used practically for paying hospital bills throughout his life. Then he's surrounded by hypocrites who are only after his money. This is one rich but very unhappy man.

Oh to be happy every time, I have seen what a lot of money can do to people it is horrible and I must admit, having just a little makes finally getting something you want all the worthwhile, like here I am working hard on here to save enough money to get myself a portable DVD player, sure I can bankcard it but no I am not getting it until I have enough money in my Paypal account to buy it and just think how I am going to enjoy it when I finally have it....it makes it all the more worthwhile...I don't think rich people are always all that happy.

Definately like your mother's way of thinking estherlou because she sounds like a wise woman. For me happiness comes from having family and special friends I can love and trust and receive the same in return from them. These important people in my life and their bonds we share are also what makes me both rich and happy, so I am not poor although I do not have much money. :)

It is more important to be happy. I think money would bring that happiness though. I have been poor and happy, as well as rich and happy. I liked the rich and happy the best.

Happy. People who are happy display a radiance about them that can be contagious at times. Happiness can keep us healthy. It make us prettier. It makes us fun to be around and it makes life worth living. Yes, money is wonderful. In the perfect world, one would be happy and have money. That is my dream.

Your comment made me smile! You are right on! Happiness is a state of mind...we have to choose to look on the bright side of things to get through the day! Money would be nice, though! LOL

couldn't I be a happy rich people??? I am joking of course but the fact is that without any money you can stay safe and happy long in thi world...I think that we all need as much money as for a decent life...if we can earn more, well money is always welcomen..but when you have what you need for living on it, well then of course the most important thing is to be healthy and happy...happiness is a difficult goal to obtain..I think we should be satisfied with our lives and think about things like love and family...my idea of happiness is having a good and loving family with a loving man and two or more children ..this is what i call happiness for me..and I hope I can earn the money I need to take care of my beloved people if I ever had my own family

I used to say I only want enough money so I don't have to worry about bills, or live paycheck to paycheck...and then decided that was probably a definition of being rich! LOL

Obviously happy would be the logical answer, but I doubt if anyone would consider that if the opportunity of wealth arose. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that wealth would increase your chance of happiness, if only by virtue of providing the opportunity to live the life that you choose.

I would rather be Happy, they always say all the money in the World can not make People happy and I think it is true. So I would rather be poor and Happy then Rich and unhappy.

I would rather be happy. Money is not everything, love, friendship, family. Those are the important things in life. Money may be able to buy you things that will make you happy, but it may only last a short while.

Of course it would be great to have both :) money doesn't necessarily bring happiness but also being poor or with less money doesn't mean you can't have other problems (other than money) that can make you unhappy. If I was facing the choice i choose happiness without hesitation because what good the money is for if it can't make me happy.

Ya i agree that money is important in leading a happy life in this present world. But I feel its just a part of life like other inportant things like family, love, etc which are more important than money. Being rich does not mean that it brings just happiness, but also lot of tensions and many more which finally may lead to sorrows.
