In the United States, they collect taxes to pay for our roads. In the US , they seize the land under public domain to build toll roads with.

I don't know about collecting taxes to pay for our toll roads, but I know they sure collect tolls to pay for them. The county may collect taxes to pay for county roads, etc. I'm not really sure how that works. The eminent domain process is used to acquire land for toll roads, for schools and government buildings. The landowner is compensated for the loss of his property, usually by a jury decision. I actually sat on a jury in an eminent domain case when the State of Florida was taking land for I-595 in our county. If the landowner doesn't agree with what the State is willing to pay them (and most don't), then it goes to a jury trial.

I'm all for the toll roads...makes our trips go faster when we don't have to stop continually for red lights.
