Are they just figments of literary fiction or is there real historical data on it?

Vampires do not exist. There are people who think they are vampires, but that is just a disease that cause that theory. Look up vampires sometime on the Internet, and decide for yourself.

as a matter of fact vampires do exist although they are not the mystical creatures we so often refer to they are actually normal (depending on your opinion of normal) people who choose to cut one another and suck their blood sometimes it is done in ritual although that is becoming less and less common these days
