Caesarian section

Do you think caesarian section births should be elective? I believe childbirth is a natural process and caesarian should not be an option unless considered necessary by the medical team involved. Childbirth today is not the hazard it was many years ago. Education and preparation for the birth is plentiful, and techniques and care adequate. To me, childbirth was a most wonderful experience. I had five big sons (10.5 lbs to 13 lbs in weight).

C section is certainly an option here in Australia and if we go by the news, many celebrities in the USA are choosing it. I have no objection to caesarian on medical grounds, but I think natural is the way to go, especially with so many advances in medical procedure.

Yes I think c sections should not be elective. You're right it is a wonderful experience that I missed twice and had to have 2 emergency c sections under epidural.

YEs, cloudwatcher, I agree with you. I have a friend who wanted a c-section, she liked the idea of putting the baby's birthdate on the calandar months before, of having the time of birth selected before hand so that it would line up with when family and friends would arrive. She wasn't able to do it, as her doctor refused to perform elective c-sections. I would never want a c-section, and was almost positive I would have to have one, because with my first child, My cervix split, they sowed it up, but My doc. and I still questioned the integrity of it the second time around. Well, when they did the ultrasounds, you could not even tell that my cervix had ever been damaged! (We serve a mighty God!) I was very thankful. I do believe there are times when a caesarian is warrented, but also think physicians and patients alike often decide hastily.

I think we are all thankful for medical science and for c-sections when necessary, but I do not believe caesarian should be available as an elective. Yes, we do serve a loving and mighty God. He is able. Thanks for sharing.

i do not believe a section should be elective. babies will ocme when babies will come. i also do not believe in inductions as 99% are really medically unneccesary and done jsut for conveinance

First of all OUCH. My kids were 7 lbs 1 oz, 6 lbs 5 oz and 5 lbs 13 oz. And Dearra, the biggest, was 15 days late! I suppose if you can afford to pay for it, you can elect anything. But if insurance or some other third party is covering the bill, why the heck should they cover something that isn't necessary. My sister was quite happy when she found out that she needed a c-section though. For some reason she was terrified of going through labor. For me personally, I think it's silly to elect major surgery just to avoid the discomfort that comes with labor. There are so many choices to help combat the pain now, so why put your body through that?

My first son was 10 lbs 8ozs. Each succeeding son was bigger and the fifth son was 13 lbs. Does that make you feel better? Here in Aus there is a growing trend for women to ASK for a C section. I can't understand why women would want to deprive themselves of the greatest experience in life. I would feel cheated if I had to undergo a C section. As you say, health funds shouldn't have to pay for unnecessary surgery.
