Is it okay to buy your kid a brand new car? Or do you think it sends the wrong message? What about buying them a used one? Or what about having them help pay for a small part of a new one? What do you think? Is it spoiling them to buy your kid a car?

First of all I could never afford to buy my son a brand new car. I would consider getting him a used one when he's old enough as long as he had a job so that he could help with the upkeep and insurance.

I don't think you should buy your kids a car new or used. You should make them help pay for the monthly payments and insurance. They have a job, so they should help pay. It's all a part of growing up. And if they don't have a job then definitely should not have a car.

I think buying a new driver a brand new car is the silliest thing EVER. Make them prove themselves decent drivers first. I was given my first car by my parents, but it was a 1988 (this was 1998) two-door Ford Escort. Helping kids out with their first car is one thing, but then they are responsible for it. Buying them a fancy new car? Lunatic.
