Ok, now that I have cliked under your name, I see you are an Aussie and pardon the pun but that flips everything upside down because the laws of driving are much different there, and unless your an Aussie living in the U.S. your more in a position to tell us.

I agree with some people here, answer your questions, I drive a 24ft box truck and predominately do tri-state work as a contractor and an owner operator. From my experience I think you are talking about Canada or Alaska. If your in Canada then you should be happy about NAFTS because there are a lot of Canadian truckers/companies operating in the U.S.. If your in Alaska I do know what to tell you except check with the oil companies. And Yes eventhough I run tri-state I too must put snow chains on occassionally!
