Weapons of mass destruction confusion?

I'm majorly confused. From what I know, the War in Iraq was "caused" by George Bush because he stated there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that the U.S. needed to investigate the situation. From my point of view, I don't agree or disagree on the situation because i really don't know what the heck is going on. I don't believe Bush started the war in iraq though because even if he was wrong about weapons of mass destruction, Iraq still needs help with their government system, and I guess we're just trying to help. And when did these 2 wars start? Can someone give me a long descriptive summary abotu the war on terror and war in iraq?
