Are you really getting what you pay for?

This really annoyed me. I called the cable company Saturday to cancel a movie channel that we were no longer watching. While I had the rep on the phone I asked about the National Geographic channel because there is a really cool show about animals in the womb coming on Dec 10th. I figured if I am not getting the movie channel that I would pay for the channels i knew we would watch. When I asked how much it was, the rep said it was free since I have digital cable. I asked why it isn't automatically given out and the rep had no answer. So anyone who has Cox Digital cable and likes all the Discovery Channels, Noggin, and National Geographic Channel (it is a total of 8 channels) you should call them up and get it added to your account for free. I have been telling everyone I know about this because digital cable is expensive and we should get all the channels we are entitled to.

Cable companies are so tricky. I recently moved, so our Time Warner Cable account was considered a "new account," which meant I could get whatever deal they had going on at the time. The rep told me that if I kept Digital Cable and Road Runner, then I could get Showtime and DVR for free for 6 months. I asked about all the price differences after the 6 months and he gave me the different prices. It sounded like a good deal, so I went with it. A couple hours later my roommate came home and we discussed what the cable guy had said. After talking to her, I realized I forgot to get 'wireless' added to our Road Runner. So I called them back. After adding the wireless with the road runner, the rep went through the individual price of everything I was paying for. She went on the say the DVR costs like $8 a month. I told her the guy I had spoken to earlier told me the DVR was free. She simply said, "I don't know why he told you that. It's not free." I was outraged. The guy had straight up lied to me!

Good thinkg you called back. Out of curiosity, why did you get a wireless service thorugh roadrunner when you can set it up yourself?

Hey no way well in britain we have Sky digital and with their packages if you have the top package you get everything movies, sports, pay per view everything then you get different packages where you can have the movies and get rid of the sports channels stuff like that then you have the basic package where you get every channel exept the movies,Sports and the new disney channels :p but you get them from the start you dont have to ask for them as they are all there already. I think that your cable companie is trying to pull a fast one lol i mean why have free chanels and not give you them whats the point in that ??? Anyway i hope you enjoy your new ones i like national geographic and the discovery channels theres heaps of them now :) hope you havea nice day

The cable here is set up that way, basic, expanded basic, digtal - 5 or 6 packages for that. I have a feel that one of two things happened: they don't add everything because they are going to charge for the channels soon or want you to buy a package that includes the channles and I got someone who didn't think quick on their feet. I lived in a Time Warner Cable area for a few years and they use to do the same thing.

Unfortunately, that is the way a lot of American companies do business. Sometimes they will put the real things you want with nonsense to make it so you have to pay more.

Corporat Americ sucks! LOL As far as on-demand - I have only relied on that for the movies I miss in the movie theater. I know that some channels do some with On Demand options (like anime network). Maybe you should look into those.

That really surprises me, they are always offering free stuff to get people to even sign up. I have dish tv, so it probably doesn't apply to me. I wish we got the animal channel, the kids love it.

They offered me a few things when I upgraded. I turned all of it down because they were like Starz, HBO and other movie channels free for a year. Nothing we would watch. Just upgrading to digital gave us access to over 30 new channels.

Well thats kinda crappy that you have to call and ask to have your free channels added. And thanks for the reminder about that In the Womb show - I saw a preview for it and almost forgot, gonna set my TiVo to record it. Looks very interesting. =)

You are more than welcome. I don't know what their deal is. I think some of this has to do with the biug push to get everyone over to digital. I am sure it saves them money somehow.
