Yes, quite a few studies have shown that vitamin C boosts the immune system and makes the flu along with other maladies go away sooner. It is water soluble as well, so you can have as much as you want and not get ill effects (unlike vitamin A).

Vitamin C is amazing for the immune system but here is a tip for you.
Kiwis contain more Vitamin C than oranges.

Vitamin C and vitamins in general can and do stop you from getting sick. Vitamin C is especailly effective in stopping you getting cold or flu viruses. Even if you do catch a cold it will be less severe than it would otherwise have been if you make sure you take vitamin C on a daily basis.

It does help but you need build your immune system first . don't think eating just a few pills without having your daily 3 meals will keep you healthy

Yes, Vitamin C is a really good immune booster. I try to take Vitamin C every day. Not only does it help your immune system on a day to day basis, it's a really good hangover cure!
Another good thing is echinachia (I'm not sure how to spell that at all), it helps boost your immune system too -- it's good to take if you feel like you're getting sick. I also had a doctor tell me once that Zinc is really good for you if you're feeling like your immune system is a little down. Apparently it's one of the few things you can do for a viral infection, is make sure you get enough zinc.
