Why do people get themselves in the worst situations?

My friends sister, who is 24 years old, recently decided she wanted another child. The only income she receives is SSI which is about $600/month. She married a man that has not worked since she has known him. The only time he's around is when she gets her check on the 1st of every month. He didn't pay for anything dealing with the wedding reception. They got married at the court house so they didn't really have any expenses for that. Now that they are married and she has just gave birth to their baby a month age, he is still not working. He leaves her at home often to go gamble down the street from where they live.He also did this a lot while she was pregnant. She is paying all the bills and her sister has been trying to help contribute to her household even though they didn't want her to marry him. In September, her mother agreed to add her a line on their home phone since she was mostly on her own. As it turns out, she let her husband call all his friends long distance and run the bill up to $600. She did not tell her mother and just 4 weeks ago her mother's phone got turned off. Hers is still on however because she switched her number to Fast Phones. Was this low down or what? What would you do in this situation?
