Viewers' voting a reality based search show on TV?

Nowadays, there are lots of reality based tv programs like American Idol or the locally produced programs which involves voting from the viewers in order to determine who will be the winner. But the problem is viewer's choice percentage is greater than the judge so mostly the deserving one to win lost. What is your opinion on this?

I love to watch such reality shows. But I feel that it is wrong to give the audience/viewers the whole choice of selecting the winner of such music shows. Because not every one is knowledgeable about music and many would just select the person they like according to their looks, place from where they come or other performance more than the musical talent in them. I think it would be better if the judges have a (major) final say in selecting the winner.
