20% Wal-Mart Bonus

I have a good laugh every Christmas when my husband brings home a 20% off coupon from Wal-Mart. It is their gift to the employees for the holiday. This is such a joke! A gift? This is how it works...I have had my eye on this new TV for a while now. They have the same TV at both Best Buy and Wal-Mart. I was going to purchase it at Best Buy, but wait...the plot thickens! I now have a coupon for 20% off at Wal-Mart. That is a nice chunk of change off the new TV. So, of course I buy the TV at Wal-Mart. Who wins? Wal-Mart! They have just got me, their own employee, to spend my hard earned cash in their store. Ok...well, my husband's hard earned cash. Sure, they paid him for his work but then they turn around and take the money right back. I'm not saying we didn't get anything out of the deal, but they are sneaky! Of course, that 20% off they gave me will also be a nice tax write off for them. Double score for Wal-Mart! Are all companies like this or do we need to start finding hubbie a new job?

I was actually working at Wal-Mart before becoming a stay at home mom, I just used my coupon yesterday to buy my son his big Christmas gift for the year. I completely agree with you though...their "gift" is to get you to spend more money, that they just gave you, with them! Their gift is actually to themselves isn't it? Never thought of it that way! Well Merry Stinkin' Christmas to Wal-Mart then!!

Yeah and what is even more irritating is Wal-Mart has millions of employees nationwide (worldwide??) and could seriously afford to give a cash bonus instead. I am addicted to Wal-Mart too. I have no choice I am a single mom and am tight on cash. But if I ever get rich enough I would like to toss them out. Go to Target or something...LOL

It makes me sick how they do things. I tease my husband all the time about going to Target or something. He's looking into banking jobs right now so maybe it won't be much longer before we can move on.

I worked at Wal-Mart for a very short time when I was 18. I think for the revenue generating through that corporation starting wage should begin at no less than 10/hr. (I live in CA and minimum wage is 6.75 here)

They do have cash bonuses...$50 if you've been there for 5 years or more and it goes up to $100 after 10 years or so...Except that a couple of years ago the deleted that incentive program - so us oldtimers there have it "grandfathered" in and they still have to give it to us.

I've always been a secretary wherever I worked, and I've always gotten a cash bonus...some companies gave better bonuses than others, but at least I could spend it where I wanted. Where I work now, we get a month's pay. I never received a month's pay anywhere else. It's just a shame I'm only working part time now. The most I got on other jobs was a week's pay, and most of the time $100. Still, it was cash to spend where I wanted and not a discount somewhere. My husband works for the county government (29 yrs now) and has never had a bonus. However, he has wonderful benefits that more than make up for it, including a pension plan through the State of Florida and a car to drive. So, we really can't complain at all.

I work at Wal-Mart to but and my husband and I are trying to buy a new tv with our extra 10% too this year. Although they're starting to piss us off over it cause we don't have any instock and they were suppose to get one from another store and still haven't got it (4 days later). In 2 more days we've decieded to go elsewhere. The thing is though - Walmart will lose money on the sale. They've only got a 10% mark-up on tvs. Although the tax write off I never thought of! Walmart is the worst company I've ever even heard of - for while anyway. I'm looking for a new job and when I find one - I'll be boycotting them. Have you watched "Wal-Mart the high cost of low prices?" - great documentry!! How long as he worked there?
