well, if i have well understood, it is a crime many students are guilty of. for example, when their teacher tell them to write a composition about Shakespear and they ( instead of studying, elaborating informations on their own and finally writing them down ) just surf the internet, find one or two good sites and do their homework with ctrl-c -- ctrl-v, that is with copy and paste. :) it is something not correct, this kind of shortcut is really really bad. unfortunately, sometimes even journalists or writers do that, earning money and reputation exploiting the hard work of someone else.

Plagiarism is when you steal information from another source and claim it as your own. For example: You write a term paper and instead of writing it yourself, you copy the text from a book or website and present as if you did it yourself. Or another example would be something that happens here on myLot: Someone makes a discussion, someone reads it, copies the text from the discussion and starts a new one exactly like it with the same information word from word.

Well since I am taking college courses I can tell you plagiarism is taking what someone else said either word for word or rephrasing it and using it as your own, hope this helps
