The Kalakshetra Foundation is located in 100 acres of prime land in Adyar in the heart of Chennai. It has unspoilt natural beauty and a quite atmosphere conducive to the learning of dance and music. It was founded by Rukmini Arundale and is considered to be the leading institution in the world for the study and performance of the classical dance form of Bharatnatyam. All the leading Bharatnatyam dancers have been associated with this institution. This Foundation is now under the control of the Central government and is functioning as a quasi-governmental institution. The idols must have reached Antonia Maino by now. She will of course pack them and send them to the Italian Embassy in New Delhi from where they will be taken in the diplomatic baggage to Rome and then from there to Orbassanno to her sister Marouchka Maino who will sell them to the highest bidder in the international antiques market. The students of Kalakshetra Foundation are now being made to dance Bharatnatyam late in the night in five-star hotels in Tamilnadu very often immediately after or preceeding a cabaret dance performance. The students cannot oppose her as otherwise she will destroy their career by making sure that they do not complete their course. The teachers cannot oppose her as their continuation in the institute is decided by her. The Foundation has a governing body consisting of some old Hindu duds like Justice Mohan (retired High Court judge) and R. Venkatraman (ex-President). Leela Samson took over as Director of Kalkshetra Foundation on May 6, 2005. She has a tenure of 5 years. For the first one year of her tenure she did not expose her hatred for Hinduism. But of late her hatred has begun to show and she is not even making any attempts to conceal it. Lord Shiva , the Cosmic Dancer, is considered the King Of Dancers which is why he is also called Nataraja. Any Bharatnatyam dance performance begins with a prayer to Lord Nataraja and invariably there will be a big Nataraja idol in the stage. There are a number of Nataraja and Vinayaka idols spread all over the campus. Leela Samson has ordered the removal of all these idols from the campus. The students are regularly offering prayers to some of these idols which are very ancient. Leela Samson has informed the students that idol worshipping is mere superstition and it cannot be allowed in a secular organisation like Kalakshetra Foundation.
