taking out a loan (in the USA)

i need to take out a loan to help pay for my living expenses at grad school. ill be back in the US on december 21, so im planning on finding a loan when i get there. ive looked up a few banks and lending institutions online but dont have much success. im studying in europe, but many of the institutions require that i study in the US if i want a graduate loan. does anyone have experiences with personal or student loans? where did you get them?
