is chivalry indeed dead?

nobody gives up their seat, opens doors, carries the heavy baggages and pushes cahirs back for the elders and the women anymore. i haven't even seen schoolkids offering to carry teachers' books for her anymore. where has "gentlemaness" gone?

Some is still alive! I know my "brother" (not blood brother... pseudo-brother, if you will) always lets me go in front of him, and holds the door for me... which makes me annoyed because I hate walking in front of people. I always hold the door for people behind me in the train station and school. Someone once asked if I needed help carrying my bags (but I think he was just flirting with me). Part of why chivalry is dying is that people have forgotten how to accept it. I once saw a man in a wheelchair, both his legs missing, going up a ramp in one of those wheelchairs that you need to push the wheels with your hands. I offered to help him, but he gave me a murderous look and said "That's okay." I wasn't offereing out of pity. I just wanted to help. It seems like people take offense if you offer to help them. Offer to carry something for a person and their response is "What, you think I'm weak!?" With women trying to be equal, if a man tried to help a woman with something, she might see him as discriminating against her because she's a woman and he assumes she needs help. It's sad. :/

very sad, indeed. you have a point there. years ago, when people were helping each other, the world was a gentler place then. you're right, when everybody wanted to be treated equally, the world became chaotic.
