Which is better? My city has about 200,000 people in it...not concidered a small town at all, but certainly not a really large city or metroplex either.

Bangalore once known as Garden City and retirees paradise, today is fast becoming a biggest concrete jungle in Asia, thanks to influx of population from all over the world to take their part of cake in Computer Soft ware development. You name the international brand, its branch is in Bangalore. It has approximately 90,00,000 people and is already a metropolitan city.

You make it sound very seductive...so the main industry is software development? If it was a retirees paradise, was that because of the beauty of the city? and what caused the influx of population? the same reason? the beauty of the city? Hope that doesn't change it's beauty!

From Garden city to concrete city. The reason for influx of population is from (1) The climatic condition is very good, all seasons moderate (2) People are friendly and has a reputation for industrial peace (3) From 1950's leading industries established their manufacturing centres in Bangalore, thus paving a way for industrial city (4) In 1990's, a because of climatic condition and government assistance, several software industries started their operation from Bangalore (5) The success of these industries in a short period, led other companies to start here. (6) British, American software companies established their call centres in Bangalore, because Bangalore provided educated, english speaking young people in plenty (7) A lot of foreign companies gave jobs to Indian software companies for medical transcription and other computer software related works. (8) Lot of money in the hands of Bangalorians and other migrated population chased the limited land for housing (9) Prices of land in 2 years doubled and it is still going up. (10) I live in the heart of the city and to reach one corner of city, it takes 2 hours by car, with heavy polluted traffic congestion. It is unimaginable that in 5 years, the city has changed into a different landscape altogether.

Ohmigosh! I can't imagine it taking 2 hours to get from one end of the city to another! I guess that makes living close to where you work an absolute necessity!

We live in a rual area way far from the city. It is quiet and peaceful. Wild donkeys and wild horses still run free. I much rather live here, then a busy city. Whe I need culture, then I will drive to the city, but for peace, I will live in the small town any day.

It must be very beautiful there. To see wild horses running free would be very special! I've just always been a city girl...never lived in the country or on a farm.

Bucyrus Dragline - Bucyrus Dragline
We are a little bit nomadic, although our home base is about 20km from a small town with a population of just 600 people. The nearest "large" town is about 100km away and has a population of 27,000 people and the next largest one is about 250kms away and has a population of 56,000. So, you see I think where you live estherlou is HUGE. LOL The nearest small town has just about everything and that includes a Doctor, Ambulance and Police Stations, 2 primary and 1 secondary school, car repair place, type dealership, hardware, post office, supermarket, butcher, chemist, clothing store, grain merchants, service station, fuel depots, electrical store, newsagency, retirement village, swimming pool, squash and tennis courts, golf and bowling clubs and so on. It actually caters for a whole region and there are several thousand people in the surrounds. Most people patronise the town businesses and the businesses in turn look after the people with good prices which are comparable to the larger towns. In some cases, they are actually cheaper than the larger towns. LOL This is a rural area and they primarily grow grain and cereal crops, although of course there are also some cattle and sheep in the district. The image is of the old Bucyrus Dragling which is at the entrance of my small town and was used to build the original irrigation channels in this district.

Sounds ideal...close enough to anything you might need, and still living in a small town where people know each other.

Hello...you are lucky...I consider it a large city that one in wich you live. Instead I live in a small town...it has 15000 people, it's very boring living here. But I am lucky...because my city is not too much small as a town of 1000 people! Anyway I like my town, because it's safe to live here..and life is good, we have a clean air and atmosphere...less cars around

Man, I'd be sad for you if you lived in a town of 1000 people. I once stayed in a place like that for a few months on a project. I got to know this guy and his family and his brothers and him had the same ex gfs. What if the town procreates? Give it a few hundred years cet par; everyone would be related to everyone. They'd end up making retard babies, ya know. same genes? LOL I live in a medium sized city but there are a lot of people here, 300,000 give or take.

I now live in a big city but I grew up in a small barrio in the province, in a farm where there was no communication line, electricity, water system, etc. but now already available almost as in a city. It depends upon the place, wherever, there are good and bad. I just now live in a cozy corner with my computer connected to the internet, I'm peaceful and happy. So to me, there's not a big difference actually.

to some, the city where i live could be considered small but to me, it's big enough for our needs. i like it's size, though, coz you still get to see familiar faces in the cowd. unlike very big cities where chancing upon friends are rare.

I live in a major city, which is purely on the grounds of easy access to my employment. There are benefits on either side of the coin when it comes to large city or small town. A large city offers easy access to a wide variety of facilties, whereas a small town will offer a far more peaceful and less hectic environment. I would like the benefit of both options, but sadly it is not possible.

The city I live in has about 90 000 people. It is a good size as you still know a few people but can hide if you need to also (I mean on those days you don't feel like socialising with anyone at the mall, when you are caught without the makeup on!) We have a larger city about 2 hours drive away if we nedd to do serious shopping.

Towns are better if good restaurants, groceries can be found; houses at cheaper rent; some friends who can be talked to at walking distances; some avenues and boulevards. (There will be no need of hospitals and medicines, if we can live and die peacefully).

I live in Mumbai . It is a very large city ,bursting to the brim with an influx of migrants on a daily basis, causing a major strain on the infrastructure, and making to and fro travel a nightmare. The population is more than 10,000,000/- Compared to your town and having limited details about the same,I would let you be the best judge as to which is the better of the two.

I live in a city of 700,000 people. Quite frankly, I detest it. The whole idea of "community" is completely lost here.

I guess it is all in what you are used to. I think I would feel claustrophobic in a large city...too many people and too much noise. On the other hand, a really small town, where everyone knows everyone else and pays attention to everyone's business, wouldn't be for me either...I'm a private person and like a little space! Picky, aren't I? LOL
