Does that mean you will not be present for birth? Or will you allow someone else to cut the cord?

There's very little blood in normal childbirth.

My husband and I had discussed with my doctor him cutting the cord and being in the room, but I had to have an emergency C-section, and they had to immediately remove him from the room because his rate rate was so low that my husband didn't get to do it. They did get him in the room on time to see him being born. It was kinda funny, he said he walked in the room and could smell the caderization (spelled wrong) and then looked and said --oh my wife's guts and oh there's my son. LOL

Why isn't your wife getting prenatal care with a doctor or midwife who will help deliver the child?

I do not recommend feeling confident to deliver your baby on your own after reading some books on it. I recommend going to the prenatal clinic and getting prenatal appointments, and when labor begins, seek appropriate care from a licensed practitioner.

There are many definitions of family, marriage, isn't the defining factor anymore, is it?

My husband was there for the birth of our daughter. He didn't exactly help, but he watched! He cut the umbilical cord himself though, and he was really excited about it. He was all like "Kristy! IT FELT LIKE CUTTING THROUGH A GARDEN HOSE!!" lol.

It kind of is like cutting through a garden hose! Did you have a Doula?

How did it feel being just an observer? If an emergency, of course, being an observer is natural. If not an emergency, did being an observer make you feel disassociated from birthing?
