Is Space exploration worth the effort and money ?????

The Government spends millions of dollars in space technology. DO you think all this efforts going into Space exploration is of any good to the mankind? compared to the problems that exist on ground level, medicinal research, poverty. If these money can be spent on other useful purposes it would yield much positive results than would exploration of space an planets and search for alien life forms. Please give ur comments!!
