Despite the "feminist movement" i would still say that on the whole we are a patriarchally dominant society. What are everyone elses views on this?
Why do you think this is still so? Does religion have any impact on the way the gender dominance swings? In ancient pagan religions the female was the ultimate source, and when this religion was dominant, society was matriarchal- estates were passed from woman to woman. Nowadays I believe christianity is the prevailing religion and it is funadamnetally a patriarchal religion and I dont know if these are related. What are everyones thoughts?

Even though I believe women have made strides within our culture, I do still feel that our society is dominated by men. I think part of this is because of religion but I also think that part of it is simple biology: women have children and are viewed as weaker because of this. Women take off work to care for their children and even though employers can't discriminate against it, I still think it's held against them. I don't know how this could ever be changed and I wouldn't want it to change biologically speaking.

What is patriarchy today? My friend's friend thinks marriage is patriarchical. Actually, she thinks everything is patriarchical. While there are still positions that women have difficulty getting into (ie, President), I do not think America is a patriarchal society. Parents pass their estate to children equally. I'm even the executrix of my parents will, over my brother. In the home, women are very strong in leading their families, just has they always have been. I just don't see where patriarchy is prevelent (except, again, in the Presidency, which is just sad... but hey, we vote, we choose).
