What is the best form of discipline for young children?

I have a toddler son and always wonder what other people do and find effective when it comes to disciplining their children. I have read heaps of books on the subject as well, but have yet to find something I really like and want to adhere to. We use time-outs, but that really does not seem to work for us thus far.

well giving them smalll beatings is fine.then dont shout at them try to make them understand their mistakes.the best is to spank them lightly when they do something wrong.
