i think that a strong car, with a good ground clearance, and a sturdy car would be best suited on indian roads.

maruti is small but it has served india for 20 years, i think good quality vehicles priced right is good for india, as india is a price sensitive market

In India people like their cars to go 0 to 100 in 3 to 4 sec and in that they need 40 to 50 kmpl either Diesel or petrol and it has to look not that bad and 4 spk on the doors, with 5 to 6 comfort seating with ample of boot space and most of all don't forget the price of the car it has to be below 2 lak ha that will a car to the Indian people but to be frank i like my Sierra even thought it does not look good for now (i am kind of broke now but see me doing it up(I will Pimp my own Ride) in a year or so) i am very proud of it even though its old and out dated but lot of people still respect it for its looks and speed to say i like Sierra so i have to go with vinay saying Tata's vehicles are good on indian roads i am so sorry vinay i could not post my Sierra Pic but i will surely give u my Mail Id ok and hey maga are u really good about knowing cars in and out let me know. will catch up ok but which car do u have now don't tell me u have Hyundai now cause man India is filled with them after Maruthi, Suv wise if u ask me Mahindra Scrpio and Bolero are good safari is good but they don't come with 4x4, in cars compact size i really like the Swift it looks really cool on Rd. last but not least i think the best Vehicle on Rd to own is a Tractor with a Trolly LoL:) seeing the indian Rd conditions now.....

In my opinion the best vehicle for India are the small cars, which are fuel efficient [and green] like the Maruti Zen or the good old Maruti 800. However, the nouveau riche are splurging on grand cars and SUVs. These are gas guzzlers. Gas is priced most irrationally in India as not only that we import almost all our crude, it[gas used by the upper crust] subsidizes everything else - Diesel, Kerosene and LPG. It is better to go in for LNG vehicles, with an almost religious fervor, esp. the Public Transport, so as to contain the ait pollution in India. It is time we are concerned about the environment. Even in countries like the US there is encouragement for Car Pooling. We should do that too. And then there is our Public Transport. We need to improve our Public Transport system to such an extent that it should be a profitable venture for the state or whoever is gonna run the show. I am refering to Metro-Rail. We need to ease the burden of private vehicles on the road. Our roads are clogged and I do not think our roads will keep pace with the rising vehicle population.

I agree with most of your comments especially improvement of Public Transport, be it City Buses or Metro Rail. It is definate that our roads are clogged and will not keep in pace with the rising vehicle population. There is also concern about the environment. Actually the Govt. is in no situation to decide what to do for decongestion of the traffic. I feel Maruti 800 is the best car suited for Indian conditions. Its good in the city traffic and in the rural places as well. I would love to talk about more but feel it would be proper to ask if you were interested in the discussion.

Why not? It is a very good discussion. Please post your ideas. We will go on and on if you like it that way. When I was in Engineering College as a student, an Australian came strolling into our College campus. Perhaps he just wanted to see how University College looks in India. You see we are all very amused what others think of us, and our education sysstem those days. We happened to ask this man-his name was Ian Roberts- what do you think is bad in India and what do you think India must improve? He said,"India must improve its Public Transport system because considering the fact that India's population is burgeonig and it will be some time before you gain control over the birth rate, a car per family seems a distant dream. So, it would do well for India to invest in Public Transport and improve it way beyond any other country! Could we today agree with him. Unbelievably very ordinary earners are having cars these days. Nobody expected India's middle class to suddenly have such disposable incomes that everyone not only thinks of buying cars but such cars that one wouldn't have imagined say ten years ago! How, why and where did this happen? By the efforts of the middle class! But roads didn't keep pace? Why? Private individuals don't build roads! Government is expected to do that! Ministers, Politicians and Babus are expected to formulate programs of road building and Infrastructural Development! Enough reason for the pace to slow down!
