Hi! Here are a few ideas. When my brother was short on cash, he would go to thrift stores and get books. He got me an assortment of Perry Mason paperbacks. I know he maybe spent 10 or 20 cents for each book, but you know, it's one of my favorite and most cherished presents I've ever received! For more books, look for library book sales or see if there are used books for sale in your library. Another idea is to make coupons for things you can do for others, like housecleaning or babysitting or even computer lessons. Those wouldn't cost you any money but would really help your loved ones. I'd love to get a coupon for free babysitting!:-) Another idea would be an assortment of the person's favorite candy or candy bars. Who doesn't like to get candy?:-) In fact, this week, Walgreens has little dishes on sale with coupon for 39 cents, you could get those and fill them with candy. Votive candles are also on sale really cheap if you know people who like candles. Another idea might be self made art. I found a really cute cat picture on the Internet that I knew my sister would like, printed it out on my own computer, and put it in an inexpensive frame and gave that to her as a gift. For something my little one can make and give as gifts, we are making bracelets from inexpensive beads and elastic string. Some of the them have turned out very nice. Even the frosted glass beads aren't expensive and make very nice bracelets or necklaces. I made a bracelet with some and barely made a dent in the amount of beads in the container! You could get several pieces out of one container of beads. That's about all I can think of for now. We are cutting back this year, too, so I know where you are coming from. Remember, gifts come from the heart, not the wallet, so be creative and do what you can and don't pressure yourself to do more. Best to you!:-)

"Gift certificates" from you to your family and friends, good for one year, tailored to their interests. You could give a niece a gift cert saying "good for one movie with popcorn with Aunt," one for a friend, "good for one night of babysitting while you go out," etc. Be creative and you will be giving a gift of your time and caring.

What about something you make yourself? Spice mixtures with a recipe for the dish attached are a good option, simple gifts like a pretty glass with a small candle tucked inside an be very inexpensive to assemble but look nice, what about a booklet of 'cheques' where you write on them things you will do for that person (depends on what you are good at of course, but for example 'I will cook you dinner' or 'I will drive you to the shops and back' or whatever, make it pretty using computer clip art and its really your time you are offering as a gift.
