Before I finished college, my mother used to warn me about intrigues in the work environment. Indeed, I experienced these in all the offices where i have worked. Chances are, if someone hates you, your initial response would be "the feeling's mutual", isn't it? I quit a job because of this, which I came to regret later on. It's hard to look for a job, and from there, I leaned that it's best to not make "spur of the moment decisions" like quitting, if your only reason is you can't stand your co-worker's face, attitude, etc. We will mature, as we grow older. Even the ones whom we consider as "rivals", "detractors", or simply "nuisance"... we all will. We must remember that in waking time, we are with our co-workers more than we are with our families. We did not apply for a job because we wanted to be loved by all. We need to work because we need to earn money. Same holds true to your co-workers. Being welcome in the group is just secondary. If your boss is fair, he or she will know who deserves a praise, raise, or promotion. Never worry about the closeness of one co-worker with the boss. The boss knows.
