Just a random thought, but do you ever think about large companies dominating industry in particular areas of economies and the effects their domination has on the local/global economy, and the consumer, do consumers get exploited by several large firms dominating industries?

It is an issue when a single company gains a monopoly position in a particular field, as it hurts consumers (there is no competition and the company can charge what it likes).
That's why anti-trust legislation exists, and why when mergers could create a monopoly, they are usually prevented from going ahead by the Office of Fair Trading
