Do you think Deal or No Deal is about pure luck or ar there any smarts involved?

Ultimately I think it is about pure luck because you have no idea what is in those cases, however a player has to look at the odds when deciding to open up another case(s).

Little bit of both, you do need to check your odds, and luck is by picking the right case at the right time!

How about this, near the end of the game say there is only 4 cases remaining, not including yours. Then Howie says you have a 1 out of 5 chance of having $1mill in your case (assuming the 1mill is still in play). I disagree with this, the chances of the person having the 1mill is still 1 out of 20. That case was selected out of 20, regardless of them eliminating cases, it was still selected out of 20 cases. Now, if that contestant put their case back and selected again, then it would be 1 out 5. What do you think?

It's all guessing and time wasting games.

It's pure luck, even odds don't matter if your luck is running for you. Sometimes we have lucky cycles of life and at others we are not so lucky. That's life!

I think it is mostly luck. Like someone says though you've got to have common sense to know when to quit and deal.

As Howie says, it's not just about luck but also timing. You have to know when to quit. If you go to a casino your odds are less than playing Deal or No Deal because a) you are spending money and b) you are not guaranteed to leave with any money. Luck, risk and timing - that's Deal or No Deal.
