My family adopted a beagle from a local rescue a couple years ago. Although I owned many dogs throughout my life this is my first Beagle. We have learned quite a lot about them in a short time but still can't seem to break him of barking when the mailman comes on our porch. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I'm not really sure there's much you can do about a Beagle barking. They're a hound dog & that's what hound dogs do best. But good luck with trying.

Thanks for the response. We have been told about some techniques to try but they just sound so harsh. Someone mentioned a shock collar. Have you ever heard of this or tried one?

I tried that for a German Shepherd/Collie that I had. They too are known for their barking. But he got smart & barked quietly when the collar was on & when it wasn't, he'd bark the same as usual. Also, he eventually chewed it because I left it on him too long one time. LOL So they don't really work.

All I can offer is that you should look them up on the internet. There are sometimes articles that will tell how to break a dog of bad habits.
