Does anyone know of any books where the people in them start out as children?

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn takes the main character Francie from childhood to young adulthood. It's about a poor family in Brooklyn in the beginning of the 1900's.

Read 'The Kite Runner'. ITs a beautifully written book about two children and how they move through life. I wouldn't want to give the story away but its worth a read. The author is Khalid Hosseini

Stephen King has a knack for writing coming of age books, scary though they be. IT is my favorite one. Stand by Me is another.
